sometimes, when i'm watching korean programs, laughing and understanding the jokes, or when i'm eating korean food, i can't help to say that i'm a korean. at the same time i can sit and watch american television and eat a mickey d's burger. however, i don't ever say i'm an american flat out. i was born and raised (half way at least) yet it's hard to come to a direct conclusion about this. whatever. i digress and say korean variety shows are awesomely hilarious and if americans were to watch it, they'll think that the country's composed of bunch of bumbling nitwits.
i'm beginning to think that my mom's suggestion to find and attend a church is a subtle hint for me to get out of taiko. i have nothing against church- well, i lie. i have much objection. due to the overzealous nature of christians in the korean population, i've become very turned off by the very aspect of christianity. it's terrible since i grew up with rather regular church goers. our family had be very lax on our weekly visits due to the fact that we never had a solid foundation in the matters of location, and that my parents weren't very active members of the church. my parents both dislike being in the lime light and they don't like how korean christians "pester" other people into working for god. it's always the same where we go- we prefer a quiet and conservative service, yet instead of murmuring of hymns and humble repentance, the people are doing ridiculous praises, organizing overbearing missions trips, and competing with each other for who donates the most money to the church (mostly to show who are wealthy and who are not, or to make amends for their wrong doings). it's even said in the bible that god loves those who aren't all preachy about being a christian and that faith and beliefs is what's important. just because you build more churches and go on these missions trips doesn't make you the "good" christians. look at the missionaries that went to afghanistan. 2 of them ended dead within a week and rest of them were kidnapped and held for ransom. they were sent back after tremendous amounts of people's tax money was handed to the kidnappers. instead of apologizing and acknowledging the wrongness of such actions other groups were heard saying that they will attempt another mission trip. this isn't helping the spread of the word of god- it's providing more room for insults and dirtying the religion. i'm forever wondering if any of my own church going friends' actions are of blind faith or just plain ignorance. by all means i'm not bad mouthing all korean christians. i just don't think their mind is set on the right purpose.
yar. that was all bunch of politics and religion, as my mom would say.
i wonder if 180 degree change of personality is possible.
